1. Who is responsible for your data?

MurderCartel, operating through murdercartel.com, is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to admin@murdercartel.com or through our contact page.

2. Information we collect

Account and identity information

  • Username, email address and a securely hashed version of your password.
  • If you use Steam: Steam ID and Steam display/persona information supplied during sign-in.
  • Account, selected-character and security-session identifiers.

Game and community information

  • Characters, appearance, levels, skills, achievements, equipment, inventory, bank, currencies, quests and progression.
  • Gameplay actions and state, including combat, locations, islands, buildings, mobs, parties, guilds, friends, trades, marketplace activity, dungeons, PvP and minigames.
  • Chat, forum posts, profile text, uploaded profile/gallery images, player-created NPC messages and other content you choose to submit. Live Global Chat is shared only between the MurderCartel Discord, the MurderCartel website and the game.
  • Reports, moderation records, anti-cheat/security events and customer-support correspondence.

Technical and usage information

  • IP-derived or hashed identifiers, approximate country, requested page, timestamps, device type, operating system and browser type.
  • Connection, diagnostic, crash, performance and security logs needed to operate and protect the website and game.
  • Cookie consent, session cookies and browser local-storage preferences.

3. Why we use this information

  • To create accounts, authenticate users and provide persistent multiplayer gameplay.
  • To save progression, operate social features and synchronize game state.
  • To moderate content, detect abuse or cheating, secure accounts and investigate failures.
  • To provide support, answer requests and send service-related communications.
  • To understand aggregated website/game performance and improve MurderCartel.
  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

Depending on the processing, our legal basis is performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing MurderCartel, your consent for optional analytics, or compliance with law.

4. Who we share information with

We disclose only what is reasonably necessary to operate the service:

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers that run the website, database, game servers, email and content delivery.
  • Steam for Steam authentication and platform functionality.
  • Discord for the Live Global Chat connection between Discord, the MurderCartel website and the game. Global Chat messages and the displayed sender name may be transmitted to and shown on those three services only.
  • Google Analytics only when analytics consent is accepted.
  • Content-delivery providers such as jsDelivr when the browser requests hosted website libraries; those providers receive ordinary request information such as IP address and user agent.
  • Authorities or professional advisers when required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • A successor operator if MurderCartel is reorganised, acquired or transferred, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Some providers may process data outside your country. Where applicable, we rely on the provider's transfer safeguards and contractual protections. MurderCartel does not sell personal data.

5. Multiplayer visibility

MurderCartel is a multiplayer game. Character names, appearance, levels, rankings, guilds, marketplace listings, profiles, chat, forum content and certain gameplay activity may be visible to other players or website visitors. Live Global Chat is limited to Discord, the MurderCartel website and the game. Do not place private information in public names, chat, profiles or uploaded content.

6. Cookies and analytics

Essential session cookies are used for login, account security and website operation. Language and consent choices may be stored in your browser. These are necessary for the requested service.

Google Analytics is optional and is loaded only after you select Accept in the cookie banner. Selecting Reject does not prevent you from using the website. You can clear the site's cookies and local storage in your browser to reset your choice.

The website also keeps first-party aggregate visit statistics, including page, country, device/browser/OS categories and one-way hashed visitor/IP-derived values. These statistics help measure usage and protect the service without storing the plain IP address in the analytics tables.

7. Security and encrypted transmission

We use password hashing, access controls, request validation and other technical and organisational measures intended to protect account data.

The current production configuration uses HTTPS for the public MurderCartel website and API endpoints. The production real-time client is configured through the secure MurderCartel realtime endpoint, allowing TLS-protected realtime transport.

Accurate scope: TLS protects supported public production traffic while it is in transit, but no transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. How long we keep information

Account and gameplay information is normally kept while your account exists so the persistent game can operate. Support and security records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for their purpose or legal obligations. Aggregate statistics may be kept longer where they no longer identify an account.

After deletion, limited information may remain temporarily in protected backups or logs until they rotate, and information required for fraud prevention, disputes or legal obligations may be retained for the applicable period. Steam applies its own retention policy to data it controls.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, request data portability, and withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already performed lawfully.

You may update certain information through your account and profile. For other requests, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify that you own the account before fulfilling a request. You may also complain to the data-protection authority in your country.

10. How to delete your account

While logged in, open Account → Delete Account in the navigation bar. Confirm your username, the displayed deletion phrase and—when your account has one—your current password.

This permanently removes the account and connected characters, progression, inventory, islands, profile data and other account-linked game records. Profile and gallery uploads are deleted. Guild leadership is transferred when another member remains. This action cannot be undone.

If you cannot access your account, send a request to admin@murdercartel.com or use the contact form. We will ask for enough information to verify ownership.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when MurderCartel, its providers or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes may also be announced through the website or game.
